A refuge of

mission and transformation

For seven years, we have been renting apartments throughout the city to facilitate our mission in various segments. However, God has given us a vision to establish ourselves more permanently and expand the impact of our ministries in the city, in Brazil and around the world from this missionary base.

Therefore, we want to share more about this dream with you.

Casa Legado

A Rich and Deep Story

The house was built by Timothy Johnson in 1965, near Brasília airport, initially to support the transport of missionaries to indigenous tribes. Timothy, a missionary pilot, needed a residence close to the airport to maintain aircraft engines, using the ground floor of the house for these activities.

In 1969, Timothy returned to the United States and sold the house to missionaries David and Gretchen Fortune. The Fortune family, active in Brazil since April 1958, initially worked with the Karajás Indians on the Araguaia River. Over the course of two decades, they completed the New Testament.

They are currently working on the Old Testament, which is 75% complete. The acquisition of Casa Legado provided a base in Brasília for their children to attend conventional schools, while maintaining frequent returns to Araguaia for ongoing missionary work.

A Legacy of Service and Hospitality

Over these years, many missionaries shared the home with the Fortune family, all engaged in God’s service. The residence also frequently served as accommodation for indigenous people involved in Bible translation.

The Fortune family expresses the desire that Legacy House continue to be a place dedicated to the service of God, preserving the tradition of missionary support and hospitality.

Continue the Legacy...

In 2023, YWAM 360 learned about the history of the house and proposed its acquisition to continue the legacy of previous missionaries, providing space for the growth of YWAM’s work in Brasília, Brazil and abroad.

Our goal is to preserve the sacrifice of many missionaries, promoting Brazil more and more as a mission center, where young Brazilians can impact the country and other nations with the transformative gospel, from the most influential place in Brazil.

The house is located in Lago Sul, one of the most prestigious regions of the Federal District. Despite being predominantly residential, Lago Sul is home to embassies, small shopping centers, public and private schools, clinics and some tourist attractions, such as the Ermida Dom Bosco. Connected to Asa Sul and Asa Norte by three bridges, Lago Sul stands out when viewed from the central area of Brasília, looking like a small town on the slopes of the hills beyond Lake Paranoá.

Despite being a highly valued region, the Fortune family offered us the property for below market value, which will be converted into dollars. The total value of the campaign already includes fees, property transfer costs and some necessary renovations, such as a cafeteria, classrooms and a space for worship. These improvements will make the Legacy House suitable to house as many missionaries and young people trained for the Great Commission as possible.

We invite you to consider becoming a partner in this significant endeavor, influencing the capital of Brazil, bringing transformation to hundreds, perhaps thousands of lives through the gospel.

You can support YWAM 360 with a contribution towards the purchase of Casa Legado. Everyone who contributes any amount will have their name printed on our Wall of Honor at Casa Legado.

We sincerely appreciate your willingness to support YWAM 360 in this dream. We hope you can visit us to get a better understanding of our ministries and missionaries.

If you have any questions about the project, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to answer any questions. God bless you.
